1. We successfully lobbied EDF to reduce the amount of deliveries by road in their development proposal for Sizewell C from 60% to 40% and instead make greater use of rail and sea transport. This increased the likelihood of the proposal's acceptance at the planning stage. (See article in The East Anglian Daily Times of 18 November 2020, available here.)
2. We impacted upon the public debate in Germany on the advisability of continuing with the final stage of its nuclear exit, involving the closure of its remaining six reactors at the end of 2021 and 2022, through two letters published in The Financial Times and Die Welt. The former, with ten co-signatories, was that paper's "best read" article of the week. The latter, with twenty-four co-signatories, including eight Germans, held a leading position on the front page of the welt.de website on the morning of its publication and was its "most read" article of that day. A straw-poll of readers conducted online showed 97% in agreement with the authors (2,790 in favour vs. 84 opposed). The two letters were referenced in a number of news articles and, together with media interest sparked by a simultaneous rise in energy prices and the publication shortly beforehand of letter by the French and other EU Government Ministers urging the widespread adoption of nuclear power, sparked a resurgence of discussion on the topic nationally. A number of radio interviews of signatories followed. (See In The Media and Publications for full texts of the FT letter of 27 September 2021 and the Welt letter of 13 October 2021, respectively; and see links here to subsequent article references in Euractiv, in World Nuclear News, in Euractiv, in Clean Energy Wire, in DW and in The Daily Telegraph.)
